Liviana

Douzens

A milestone found at Saint-Couat counts twenty miles, about thirty kilometres, from Narbonne, on the stretch where the map sets Liviana, a halt of the Volcae Tectosages between Carcassonne and Narbonne. The Gallo-Roman bishop Sidonius Apollinaris mentions the place in one of his letters. It is placed at Douzens or nearby Capendu; Marseillette and La Livinière were also suggested. Some older copies misread the name as Luvaria. A place of the same name in Africa should not be confused with it.
