Road station
Longatico
Logatec · Lohitsch
Listen to the story
Longatico, the Roman Longaticum, was a station with lodgings on the road from Aquileia over the Julian Alps to Emona, and its name lives on in the Slovene town of Logatec, in German Lohitsch. Both a Roman register of routes and the pilgrim from Bordeaux call it a mansio, an overnight stop. Yet no finds have pinned down the Roman site itself. On the map the name is unfinished: after Long the copyist seems to have erased what he had written, and the gap was never filled.
