Island
Insula Bovena
(Straits of Bonifacio) (Barrington) · Caprera (Miller)
Listen to the story
Among the small islands the map sets near Sardinia is Insula Bovena, whose name should probably be read as Bovenna; a list of places compiled in Ravenna calls it Bobenia. It most likely lay at Sardinia's northern tip, in the Straits of Bonifacio, perhaps the island of Caprera or Molara further south. Older research tied it, and its companion Boaris, to two uninhabited rocks called the Bull and the Cow near Sulci at the island's south-western tip, a match later judged impossible.
