Island

Insula b[?

Listen to the story

Insula, followed perhaps by the letter b, is nearly all that can be read beside a small square-shaped island among the Mediterranean islands of the map. Insula simply means island. The lettering to its left has faded to its last traces, and scholars disagree whether even that single letter is really a b. A printed edition of 1598 still gave it as Ins b.
