Gerulatis

Rusovce

Listen to the story

Gerulatis lies today within the city of Bratislava, at Rusovce, where the Romans built a camp before 116 on an arm of the Danube, between Carnuntum and Ad Flexum. In the second and third centuries a cavalry regiment was stationed here, and in the fourth century mounted archers held the fort. Excavations have uncovered a temple of Jupiter, a cemetery, pottery, metal vessels and coins. The Chertobalus of the Greek geographer Ptolemy may be the same place under another name.
