Faventia

Faenza

Listen to the story

Faventia, from the Latin word for favour, a name meant to bring luck, is Faenza on the Via Aemilia, where the road crossed the Lamone. In 82 BC Metellus defeated the army of the Marians here in the civil war. The town was known for its wine, whose yield the Roman scholar Varro praised, and for its linen, and the mother's family of the emperor Lucius Verus came from here.
