Road station
Caranusca
bei Montenach (Miller) · Hettange Grande (Barrington)
Caranusca was a station on the road from Trier to Metz, and its name is probably an old, perhaps Ligurian, name of the stream now called the Canner, which flows into the Moselle; the settlement grew up on its banks, near Elzingen or Montenach, while a modern atlas suggests Hettange-Grande. The map gives forty-two miles, about sixty-two kilometres, from Metz, which is impossible; older research proposed reading seventeen, a simple confusion of the numerals.
