Carsio

Hîrşova · Hârșova

Carsio is Hârșova on the Danube in the Dobruja, a fort built under Trajan where the road met a ford across the river. A cavalry regiment of Spaniards, the Second Ala of Aravaci, seems to have repaired the passing road in 200, and on the opposite bank, at the mouth of the Ialomița, a unit of Syrian archers kept watch for a time. The fort was destroyed by the Huns, rebuilt, and held soldiers until the sixth century; the Greek geographer Ptolemy and the historian Procopius both name it.
