Careias

Galera [3] · Osteria nuova di Galeria [4]

Listen to the story

Careias is Careiae, at Galera on the river Arrone, where the ruins of a deserted medieval town now stand. The engineer Frontinus, who was in charge of Rome's water supply, mentions the place when describing the Alsietina aqueduct, which took extra water from Lake Bracciano around Careiae. On the map the road from here runs to Vacanae, although it should lead on to Forum Clodii; the lines were so crowded at this point that the continuation was left out.
