Boecolen Montes

Listen to the story

Boecolen Montes lie in the south of Cyrenaica, in what is now Libya, a range otherwise known only from the geographer Ptolemy. The name is written oddly small for so long a mountain symbol, while the peoples living above and below it, among them the Nasamones, stretch their names along its whole length and take pride of place. Its length matches three separate chains in Ptolemy between Egypt and the Great Syrtis, and a river, the Gihir, is said to rise here.
