The Save, which flows on through Slovenia and Croatia to Belgrade, rises in this second piece of the Julian Alps, drawn with a plain red outline and no filling, unlike the pieces around it. An erasure shows that the copyist of around 1200 first gave the river's source to the next group of mountains and then moved it here. The name Julian Alps first appears in the Roman historian Tacitus.
