Alpes Iuliae 3] 3v3

Listen to the story

In Istria, beside the town of Parentium, now Poreč, three low humps stand for the stony southern end of the Julian Alps, and from them springs the Arsia, the Raša. With the pass station In Alpe Iulia these three pieces clearly belong together, yet the map scatters them, perhaps because the copyist found this part of his model damaged. The name may go back to Octavian, Caesar's heir and a Julius by adoption; in Roman times these mountains were the border between Italy and Illyricum.
