Twenty-eight rivers spring from this stretch of the Apennines on the map, among them the Tiber, the Trebbia, the Reno, the Magra and the Ombrone. It is the first of six separate chains into which the map breaks up the range, the mountain backbone of Italy, and each of them is drawn as the source of its own group of rivers.
