Aquis Nisincii

(possibly Bourbon-l’Archambault?)

Listen to the story

Aquis Nisincii, 'at the waters' of Nisincium, is usually identified with Bourbon-Lancy in Burgundy, whose baths go back to Roman times; others look to Bourbon-l'Archambault instead. A Latin speech in praise of the emperor Constantine celebrates hot healing springs in this land of the Aedui under the protection of Apollo, and much later the writer Rabelais still listed the baths of Bourbon-Lancy. On the map the road line on to Autun is missing.
