Aquis Tatelis
Acqui Terme
Listen to the story
Aquis Tatelis, the waters of the Statielli, is Acqui Terme in Piedmont, once the chief town of a Ligurian people and famous for its warm springs. The Roman writer Pliny names it among the places where healing springs founded whole towns, alongside Pozzuoli and Aix. Its splendid Roman baths were still standing in the early Middle Ages, and remains of an aqueduct survive. On the map, the bath drawing seems to have been reshaped by the medieval copyist.
