Road station

Alarante

Monêtier-Allemont

Here the map writes Alarante a second time, straight after the first, with sixteen miles between the two. It is almost certainly a copying mistake: the silver cups from Vicarello and the Roman register of routes name this station, Alabon near Le Monêtier-Allemont, only once, with a single stretch of sixteen, and the road simply has no room for another. Older research did consider a lost side road towards Geminas, but judged it very unlikely. The slip may go back to the monk of Colmar who made the surviving copy, or to an earlier copyist.
