Ad Aquas

Miloševo (Serbia)

Ad Aquas gave its name to a whole district: the Byzantine historian Procopius lists many places in the territory of Aquae. The station lay on the Danube road between Egeta and Ratiaria, at Miloševo in Serbia; older research put it by the river at Prahovo, others on the spring-rich plateau of Vidrovac, where a strong fort once stood. Ad Aquas means at the waters, one of several places so called on the map. It lies nine Roman miles from Clevora; the map's twenty-four on to Dorticum seemed wrong to older research, which preferred ten.
