Ponte Vetere

Cîineni

Ponte Vetere, at the old bridge, was a Roman settlement on both banks of the Olt at Câineni in Romania, inside the Red Tower Pass, with a fort about one hundred and fifty metres on each side on the left bank and probably a customs post. The map sets it nine Roman miles from Praetorium, but its next figure, forty-four miles on to Caput Stenarum, is far too high for the short way through the pass: probably a copyist's slip for fourteen or nineteen.
