Mountain

Mons N.N.

Le Mainarde [1]

Listen to the story

The Mainarde, the mountains north-east of Cassino, are probably what the map means by these three rounded humps without a name. The river flowing from them reaches the sea beside the twin towers of Minturnae, so it must be the Liris, the Garigliano. But the real Liris rises much further north, and the stream drawn here is more likely its tributary the Gari, which comes down from these very mountains near Cassino.
