Mons N.N.

Listen to the story

In Tuscany, between the names Cosa and Succosa, the map draws a little chain of four humps from which the Albinia, now the Albegna, flows a short way to the sea. Older research took it for Monte Argentario by the harbour of Hercules, but that rocky headland lies south of the river's mouth and cannot be its source; the Albegna really comes from Monte Amiata, famous for its cinnabar mines. So the four humps may simply stand for the hills of Tuscany in general.
