Listen to the story
Thirteen humps in a row, set between the Via Appia and the Via Latina, make up Mons Lepinus on the map, the Monti Lepini south-east of Rome, once the homeland of the Volsci. From their middle a nameless river winds in two wide loops to the sea at Terracina: probably the Ufens or the Amasenus, or both rivers merged into one. The two great roads on either side made these mountains well known, which may be why the map draws them with some care.
