Iovia
Gradina
Listen to the story
Iovia lay at Gradina in Croatia, on the Drava road from Poetovio to Mursa. It is not the Iovia of the Roman register of routes and the pilgrim from Bordeaux: that one is the station this map calls Botivo, today Ludbreg. A modern atlas equates this Iovia with Cardonum, a place to change horses named by the pilgrim, the Carrodunum of the Greek geographer Ptolemy; older research placed it west of Pitomača. The map sets Iovia eight Roman miles, about twelve kilometres, from Luntulis and ten from Sirotis.
