Iseum

Somewhere in the Nile Delta, perhaps at ancient Sebennytos, now Samannud in Egypt, the map places Iseum beside a small drawing of a building, read as a temple. The name means a sanctuary of Isis, the Egyptian goddess of magic and motherhood whose cult spread across the Roman world. The picture stands on its own, joined to no road, the third of three such isolated symbols in this corner of the map. Sebennytos lay close to the town of Iseopolis, yet had a large Isis sanctuary of its own, and that temple is probably what the drawing stands for.
