Iseum
Iseum is marked by a small drawing of a house-like building, a temple symbol standing on its own beside the word Delta, with no road leading to it. The name means a sanctuary of Isis, the Egyptian goddess of motherhood and magic, so the little building stands for a shrine rather than a staging post. It may be Busiris, which the Greek historian Herodotus said held the greatest temple of Isis. Yet the map scatters three such Isis shrines and three shrines of Serapis rather schematically across Egypt, so scholars disagree whether real temples are meant or simply a sign of the country's many pagan cult sites.
