River
Fl. Tetius o. Fl. Basileus?
Listen to the story
Between the Cypriot stations of Citium and Amathus the map draws a river but gives it no name, so scholars can only suggest the Tetius or the Basileus, and they agree that certainty is impossible. The geographer Ptolemy knew the Tetius, which rises in the Olympus mountains and is identified with the river of Kiti. The Basileus, recorded in a list of places compiled in Ravenna, is the Vassilipotamos, which also comes down from Olympus and reaches the sea to the west of the first.
