River

Fl. Adonius o. Fl. Adonis

Listen to the story

Flumen Adonis, the river named after Adonis, is how scholars identify a stream that the map draws without any name, its course running between the coastal towns of Byblos and Botrys in what is now Lebanon. The identification is thought plausible, but it comes with a catch: the real river reaches the sea south of Byblos, not between Byblos and Botrys, so the map's river sits on the wrong side of the town.
