Fl. Aturius

Adour

Listen to the story

The Fluvius Aturius, the river Adour in south-western France, runs across the map as a line with no name beside it, so editors supplied the label. Its name probably stood at the river's mouth, on the first section of the map, which is lost. The river flows from the Pyrenees to the Atlantic through the land of the Tarbelli in Aquitania. The geographer Ptolemy recorded its mouth, and the Roman poets Lucan and Ausonius mention its banks.
