Fines

Montauban

Montauban, or a site close by such as Saint-Nauphary or Bressols, is where the map's Fines is usually placed, on the road from Cahors to Toulouse; Le Fau has also been proposed. The name means boundaries, and this one marked the border between the provinces of Aquitania and Narbonensis. The name is damaged on the map, and its second letter may be an a rather than an i. Older research thought that the figure to Toulouse, twenty-eight, counts Roman miles rather than Gallic leagues. The start of the stretch onward to Cosa is not marked.
