Dilunto

Stolac

Dilunto is Diluntum, today Stolac in Herzegovina, the Roman successor of the hill town of the Daorsi at nearby Ošanići. The Daorsi were among the most Greek-influenced peoples of the Illyrian coast: their stronghold had walls of huge stones, still up to six metres high, much Greek pottery has been found there, and they struck their own coins with a ship. They sided with Rome against the Illyrian king Gentius in 168 BC. Diluntum became a self-governing town by the time of Hadrian and later had an early Christian basilica. On the map the road line through here was never drawn.
