Listen to the story
Clusium, today Chiusi in Tuscany, was one of the twelve cities of the Etruscan league, called Clevsin by the Etruscans and said to have once borne the name Camars. At the end of the sixth century BC its king Lars Porsenna marched on Rome to restore the exiled Tarquins. The Roman writer Pliny describes his tomb near the city: a square stone base hiding a labyrinth, crowned by five pyramids. Some three thousand Etruscan inscriptions come from the town and its territory. One thing is missing from the map: Lake Trasimene, which ought to appear close by.
