Centum Putea

Khirbet Ramadan? Hweisis? Bir Jihar? (Barrington)

Centum Putea, whose Latin name speaks of wells, was the last station on the road from Apamea to Palmyra; Ptolemy calls it simply Poutea, the wells. The map counts twenty-seven Roman miles, about forty kilometres, from Occaraba, but gives no figure for the final stretch to Palmyra, so the site cannot be fixed. Older research reckoned that some twenty-three miles are missing there, and milestones found along the way, numbered eighteen and thirteen, were probably counted from Palmyra.
