Celia
Ceglie die Bari · Ceglie del Campo (Bari)
Listen to the story
Celia is Caelia, now Ceglie del Campo on the edge of Bari, a town of the Peucetians on the Via Traiana whose wall ran for more than five kilometres. Graves of the sixth to fourth centuries BC lie inside its circuit, and in the third century BC it struck coins with its own name. The medieval geographer Guido of Pisa still called it a vast and ancient city. It must not be confused with Ceglie Messapica, another Caelia near Brindisi.
