Aspacora
Anschikan (Miller)
Listen to the story
Aspacora lies far out in the map's Indian section, on the road that led from Kabul towards Zarang in Sistan. Its name has been explained as Afghan for a 'mares' station', a resting place for horses, fitting for the horse-rich highlands of Ghor near the sources of the Helmand, where the station is usually sought. It is probably Anschikan in Afghanistan, where the road may have crossed the route from Herat to Kabul. The geographer Ptolemy knew the town as Aspakara, and a list of places compiled in Ravenna calls it Aspagora.
