Arsia Fluvius

Bei Castelnuovo d´Arsa [1 · 5]

Listen to the story

Arsia Fluvius marks the point where the road through Istria crossed a river that still bears the name Arsa, near Castelnuovo d'Arsa in Croatia. The map gives just a name with no picture, and it probably stands for the bridge, or the road station beside it, between Albona and Pola. The lettering is black, apparently to set the station apart from the river itself, whose name appears in red. The Roman writer Pliny ended his measurement of Italy's breadth here, and a list of places compiled in Ravenna calls it the farthest end of Italy, the boundary between Liburnia and Istria.
