Adrante
Trojane
Listen to the story
Adrante, the Roman Atrans, guarded the pass at Trojane in Slovenia, five hundred and sixty-three metres high, where the road from Emona to Celeia crossed from Italy into Noricum. The pilgrim from Bordeaux notes the boundary of Italy and Noricum here, and inscriptions name a customs post and soldiers from the governor's staff. Fragments of two gilded horse statues have been found. On the map the name was squeezed in late, and its figure of thirty-seven miles to Celeia is too high: a Roman register of routes gives twenty-four.
