Ad Quintanas

near Colonna (Barrington)

Listen to the story

Ad Quintanas, on the Via Labicana at Colonna in the Alban Hills, took over the role of the old Latin town of Labicum once that faded away: inscriptions call its people the Labicani Quintanenses, the Labicans of Quintanae. The ancient road ran a little apart from today's Via Casilina here. Beyond the station it climbed past Mount Algidus, an ancient seat of the goddess Diana that the poet Horace sings of.
