Ad Rotas

Monteroduni? [2 · 3]

Listen to the story

Ad Rotas, at the wheels, was a station on the road from Venafrum to Aesernia where it followed the river Volturno, probably at Monteroduni; a milestone nearby counted one hundred and ten miles from Rome. On the map it looks like a dead end with two roads leading away from it, but only because this route is drawn upright on the long, narrow parchment. Oddly, the map leaves out Venafrum altogether, although it was the more important town.
