Ad Statuas
bei İnceğiz
Ad Statuas, at the statues, lay probably near today's İnceğiz on the Karasu river, west of Istanbul, where the road crossed the old highway the Romans called the strata vetus; traces of the crossing have been found. The Roman ruins once reported in the village are gone, but a cemetery nearby, dug in rescue excavations from 1992 to 1995, held glass vessels, jewellery and coins from the 3rd century BC to the 5th century AD. Close by are a Thracian cult cave and a cave monastery of Saint Nicholas, four storeys high. The map forgot to draw the road here.
