Zirinis
bei Lykophos und Kornofolea
Zirinis, near today's Lykophos and Kornofolea on the right bank of the Hebros, was a small town on the Via Egnatia, in truth south-west of Plotinopolis. Its name is Thracian. If it is the Zeirenia that the historian Theopompus named in the 4th century BC, it may mean something like cloak town, after the zeira, a Thracian cloak. On the map its road runs straight to Aenos; it should run to Dymis first and then on to Aenos, twenty miles each, and the figures would all fit.
