Zyrmis

[between Bessapara and Philippopolis]

Zyrmis lay somewhere between Bessapara and Philippopolis, the map's Phinipopolis, and its exact place is unknown; under Justinian it was called Ozorme. The map counts fourteen miles from Egirca and twenty-four on to Phinipopolis, but the figures fall short of the road: about twenty-seven miles seem to have dropped out, perhaps two stations. One was Bona Mansio at today's Vetren, with the ruins of a fort and the only milestone found on this whole stretch, a white marble column with a Greek inscription set up by Philippopolis under Gordian.
