Quaeri
Koper · Capo d`Istria?
Listen to the story
Quaeri is a puzzle, a name found nowhere else, and scholars suspect the copyist mangled it. One reading restores it as Aquae Risani, the waters of the Risano, a spa on the river the Romans called Formio, which marked the border of Italy until Augustus pushed it further. The map supports the idea with a large building drawn almost in perspective, much like the one at the springs of the Timavus, perhaps another bath. No road reaches it, though. The place probably lay near Koper in Slovenia.
