Paralocae Scythae

Paraliton

Listen to the story

The Paralocae Scythae were a Scythian people placed by the map in the lands beyond the Sea of Azov, below the Taurus mountains. A list of places compiled in Ravenna calls them Paraliton, understood as those who dwell by the sea, and ties them to a province near Armenia. The Greek historian Herodotus knew a people called Paralatae who may be related. They seem to have been nomads grazing the Mugan steppe on the lower course of the river Kura.
