Pannonia Inferior

Listen to the story

Pannonia Inferior, Lower Pannonia, was the Roman province downstream on the middle Danube, formed when Pannonia was divided in the early second century AD and covering roughly eastern Hungary west of the river and parts of Croatia and Serbia. The geographer Ptolemy knew it by the same name. On the map, the letter F of the name sits over a road stop that the copyist evidently judged superfluous, probably drawn there by mistake.
