Iovis Larene
Campo di Giove [3] · Ocriticum [Pleiades]
Listen to the story
An inscription set up by 'the worshippers of Jupiter of Ocriticum' points to the sanctuary behind Iovis Larene, a station on the road across the Abruzzo mountains. Its site is usually placed at Ocriticum near Cansano, where the remains of two temples, to Jupiter and to Hercules, and a small shrine of Ceres and Venus survive. Older research looked for it elsewhere, at Campo di Giove, Pettorano or the pass of Cinquemiglia. For a place of worship a temple drawing might be expected, but the map gives only the name.
