Insula, simply "island", is all scholars can call this piece of land drawn in the far Indian reaches of the map. No name is written beside it, and none has left any trace. If the original map ever continued beyond the end of our copy, a name would most conveniently have stood to the right of the island, where the surviving parchment runs out.
