Island

Insula N.N.

Listen to the story

Insula N.N. is simply the editors' label for an island with no name, marked on the map only by its outline in the sea. Whether it ever carried a name is uncertain. One reading sees faint, illegible traces of lettering in the water; another finds none at all. It lies in the map's section on Asia east of the Sea of Azov, and it has never been located. A list of places compiled in Ravenna names three islands in the Hyrcanian Gulf, among them the wooded islands.
