Island
Insula [N.N.
Listen to the story
Insula, simply Latin for 'island', is all that can be said with confidence about this small island drawn in the part of Asia beyond the Sea of Azov. Its own name has almost vanished: only two letters survive, usually read as a V and perhaps an M. Scholars have wondered whether they are the tail end of 'Caspian Sea', yet no trace of the rest of that name appears nearby, so they more likely belong to the island itself.
