River

Fl. Scamander

Listen to the story

The Scamander, the river that flowed past Troy, is the name scholars give to an unnamed river line the map draws in Asia Minor. The copyist wrote no label beside it, so the identification is a modern suggestion. It is thought plausible, though scholars doubt whether the map's rivers here were ever meant to match real ones, and the same caution applies to the rivers on either side.
