River

Fl. Duria

Doire Baltée · Dora Baltea

Listen to the story

The Duria is the Dora Baltea, the river of Italy's Aosta valley, and its name goes back to a Celtic word for water. The map draws it without a name, running from a mountain lake down to the Po. Its line is broken by the town symbol of Augusta Praetoria, modern Aosta, and the river seems to meet the Po right there, which does not fit at all. In reality it flows on past Ivrea and joins the Po near Crescentino, after a course of about a hundred and sixty kilometres. The Greek geographer Strabo noted that its waters carried gold.
