Region
Desertum
Listen to the story
Desertum is simply the Latin word for 'the desert', set on the map in the lands beyond the Euphrates and south of the Taurus mountains, near the Persian Gulf. Unusually for a region, the name stands in black rather than red. It has been taken as part of the geographer Ptolemy's Arabia Deserta, desert Arabia, and identified with the Hamad desert.
